| ADJUDICATOR |
Glenfiddich
Fiddle Championship
Bill has also adjudicated at the prestigious Glenfiddich Fiddle Championship,
a major competition for the Scottish fiddler. The competition takes
place in Blair
Castle at Blair Atholl each year and fiddlers must play solo pieces
for approximately fifteen minutes. A slow air, march, strathspey and
reel should be played as one set, and a slow strathspey, hornpipe
and jig, as another. Competitors also devise their own set using tunes
from a particular composer named by the competition organisers.
Around eight to ten people compete each year, and the prize is
£250 plus a large quaich (which must be returned), and a miniature
quaich to keep. This years winner was young Shetland fiddler Gemma Donald (17) from Whiteness.
The 2007 GLENFIDDICH FIDDLE CHAMPIONSHIP will take place on Sunday,
28th October. |
